What a fabulous High Tea we had on Saturday afternoon! Thanks to all our supporters that came along to enjoy our concert and afternoon tea.
Thanks to Lynbrook Village for inviting us to come and sing our Christmas songs for Santa's arrival! We had a ball and even had Santa singing along too. Our crazy Melbourne weather had us running for cover a couple of times, but we had a great time.
What a lovely time we had entertaining folk at the Village Baxter for their annual Red Cross fundraiser event! Although we were a small chorus due to the nasty winter bugs that are doing the rounds, we had great fun singing some of favourite songs, both old and new!
If you love to sing, come and join us for new members month in October! Check out the details in the flyer and spread the word among your friends. Singing in harmony is great therapy for the soul and a perfect way to meet new friends. No previous experience is necessary, just come along and join in the fun! We hope to see you there!
Southern Sounds Chorus were invited to sing on Mornington Main St during the Mornington Winter Jazz Festival, but unfortunately it was such a cold and rainy day that the outdoor performances were cancelled. However, we were all there, dressed up and raring to sing, so we got permission to sing in one of the shopping centres instead where we entertained the shoppers!
We love performing at Baxter Village at the annual fundraiser for the Red Cross. With our director Catherine away, Lorraine and Karen did a fantastic job of directing the chorus for this concert!
This year we also had Momentum quartet performing too, which the audience loved.
We had an absolute ball at convention in Hobart and were thrilled to receive our highest ever score of 513 points, the first time we score over 500 points! We placed 4th in the small chorus category and 13th overall, a fantastic achievement. We'd like to thank our director Catherine for leading us to this result and for her unwavering commitment to the chorus. Thanks also to everyone that helped us along the way, particularly our coaches Virginia Humphrey-Taylor, Joey Minshall and Glenda Lloyd.
9 members of our chorus were also 'first timers' at competition this year, so they finally got to experience all the fun of convention, not just performing, but the mass sings, harmony bazaar, showcase of champions, not to mention enjoying the chorus and quartet competitions.
We had a fantastic weekend of coaching with Virginia, she renewed our passion, energy and sound, and amazed us with her endless energy, knowledge and generosity.
We all came away from the weekend brimming with confidence and joy for singing, and looking forward to competing in Hobart!
Posture, posture, posture!
A P&O cruise ship arrived in Mornington today, and Southern Sounds Chorus was there to entertain the passengers as they explored Mornington Main Street. We delighted the tourists with renditions of some Aussie favourites such as I Still Call Australia Home, Shelter, Never Never, True Blue, I Am Australian, plus some of our other favourites!
Southern Sounds chorus members didn't have time for Christmas shopping this year - we were too busy singing for the other shoppers at a range of locations, including Mount Eliza, Mornington Main Street, DFO Moorabbin and Fountaingate shopping centre.
